On a PC with the Windows 10 Operating System:
- The first place to check for an update is the bottom right corner of the desktop screen. If there is a red exclamation mark or an orange circle over a square with arrows, there is a windows update.
- If there is not an icon in the bottom right corner, then it is important to periodically check for updates in the settings menu through the following steps:
- In the bottom left corner, select the Windows menu.
- Select the gear cog icon to open the Windows menu settings.
- Next, click the “Update & Security” icon in the bottom left corner. Users can also search “updates” in the search feature.
- If an update is available, there will be an option to “Install Now.” If an update is available, it is highly recommended to be connected to both the Wi-Fi and the McKim & Creed VPN (see guide below for more information) for better connectivity and download speed.
- If there are no updates available, the following message will appear:
**HOWEVER, run the check for updates even if it has “Today” listed as last checked; a new update that has not been detected yet could be a potential reason for computer slowdowns or glitches**
- Devices normally run updates after business hours, but the device must be turned on and connected to the internet.
On a PC with the Windows 11 Operating System:
- From the computer's taskbar, right-click the Windows Start menu. (The icon on the left of the options displayed on this taskbar below):
- Select the Settings option to open the Settings interface:
- On the left-hand side of the interface at the bottom, please click Windows Update.
- From this Window, click, "Check for Updates" in the upper right portion of the interface:
- After the process completes, select the tab in the middle of the interface entitled, "Advanced Options" to progress to this window below:
- Select the tab for Optional Updates, verify that all possible updates are set for installation by checking the packages individually like here:
- Hit Download & Install to initiate.
- Please use the interface's option to Restart Now in order to have those updates complete installation each time:
