Various hardware issues caused by power can be remedied with this process.
IMPORTANT - See order of operations at bottom of article!
Typical issues that his can fix:
- Slow or no charging
- Monitors blinking when connected
- Virtual Ethernet adapter fails when connected to dock
Most Thinkpad laptops have a tiny pinhole on the underside that can be used to flush all power from the capacitors on the system/mother board, then re-map power properly.
If the pinhole cannot be easily discovered by flipping over the laptop and visually inspecting, check here to see if one exists:

If serial # is available, click here and paste it to find the exact laptop: ("Detect Product" will install an app called Service Bridge that should sniff out the SN)
Go to the home page of the PC and click Guides and Manuals on the left, then select Hardware Maintenance Manual:
The Manual is searchable and the emergency reset hole (pinhole) can usually be found with the word "Emergency."
Order of operations for proper emergency power reset:
1. Disconnect all power sources including docking station or AC Adapter and remove all USB and other peripherals
2. Insert a straightened paper clip into pinhole and depress button for full 60 seconds.
3. reattach power - look for power LED to blink 3 times.
4. press power button to power on laptop as normal.
